Motivating Children for Success Online

It can be challenging for any teacher to keep kids motivated in the classroom. When students are learning remotely, it can be even more difficult. Teachers need to use strategies that will keep children engaged, build on their strengths, and encourage them to explore their own interests.

Keep Students Interested and Focused

Disinterest and apathy can keep students from reaching their full potential. When kids are learning from home and are physically separated from their teachers and peers, it’s even more critical to keep them engaged.

Often, students don’t understand why they’re studying something or how it will help them later in life. Teachers should relate the coursework to children’s current lives or to goals they may hope to pursue in the future.

Educators should ask thought-provoking and open-ended questions and encourage students to participate in discussions. When children are given opportunities to share their unique perspectives and they receive positive feedback from their teachers and peers, they build confidence and self-esteem and feel an emotional connection to the material and to each other.

Give Students Some Control over What They Learn

Teachers have to follow a core curriculum, but that doesn’t mean that classes have to be limited to that material. Educators should ask students what topics they would like to delve into in more detail. Teachers may decide to cover those areas in more detail in classes and assignments, or they may encourage children to pursue those interests in the form of independent study and projects.

Let Children Work at Their Own Pace

One of the beauties of online learning is that it gives all students an opportunity to work at a pace that’s comfortable for them. Some may excel in certain subjects and may breeze through assignments, but those same students may need more time and help in other areas. Teachers should offer online office hours or consultations via video conferences, texts, or emails to help those who are struggling.

Give Students Work That Is Difficult, But Doable

Assignments should be challenging but manageable so that students stretch themselves beyond their comfort zones without feeling overwhelmed. Teachers can assign a combination of individual assignments and group projects so children can develop confidence in their own abilities and also learn from each other.

Online educational programs can give students access to a wide range of classes and resources, as well as opportunities to interact with instructors and students across the United States and around the world. Studying online can allow students to learn at their own pace and to focus on subjects that they find particularly interesting.

With so many online programs out there, it can be difficult to know which offers the best educational experience and opportunities for enrichment. Here are some things to consider when choosing an online learning program for your child.

Look for a Program with a Broad and Challenging Curriculum

When comparing online programs, look for one that will give your child a well-rounded education. A program should offer classes in core subjects, such as language arts, math, social studies, and science, as well as other subjects, including world languages and technology.

Programs that integrate students of different grade levels and have children work together on projects can be particularly effective. Collaborating on assignments helps children learn to work together, respect each other’s opinions and contributions, and build on each other’s ideas. Those are valuable skills that will serve them well later in life.

Find a Program That Suits Your Child’s Individual Needs

Some students learn faster than others. Some excel in several subjects but have trouble in another area. An online educational program should treat your child as an individual, recognizing both strengths and areas where your child may need more support.

The program that you choose should offer courses in a variety of subjects that go beyond a traditional core curriculum. It should provide opportunities for your child to explore new areas and discover new talents and passions.

Education technologies have been transforming how students learn for years. In 2020, with a global pandemic and forced shutdowns across communities - many families and districts will experience what online school is all about for the first time. While there were many changes to get used to - there were also many new developments and a greater appreciation for online learning that resulted.

Now with more vaccinations, and states reopening, some parents are demanding that online school options be offered in addition to returning back to the classroom.

One report by The New York Times found that some students that are using digital learning in their school districts have students who are thriving in the school system after years of struggling with learning and academics. Continuing with this type of education after the Coronavirus is on the agenda for many educators and parents.

The biggest difference in remote learning that some schools did amidst the pandemic was to try and keep kids up to date with learning and those stand-alone virtual schools that are offering fully remote education. These online schools have their own teachers and curriculums designed for online school format.

For many parents and students, the push for online and remote options comes from concerns over bullying, health issues, discrimination in their schools, and also for the convenience it can provide for families.

My Dynamic Academy is a new way to learn, explore, and grow! We are a K-12 educational resources program and private school. Our curriculum, after-school programs, world languages, STEM, technology courses, and more make it possible to customize your child’s education.

People often use the terms “homeschool” and “virtual school” interchangeably. While the two styles of at-home education have some similarities, there are also important differences that you need to understand so you can decide which option would be better for your child.

Who Designs the Curriculum and Teaches Kids?

In a homeschool model, parents can purchase a curriculum that they feel aligns with their child’s interests and learning style and their family’s beliefs, or they can design their own curriculum. Parents who homeschool their children serve as teachers. They may or may not have a professional background in the field of education.

With virtual school, parents and students work with an established online public or private school. Teachers guide students through the curriculum via lectures, discussions, and projects that students complete at home. Parents facilitate the process and help students stay on track, but they’re not responsible for teaching or involved in designing the curriculum.

Some parents choose to have their children educated at home so they can receive an education that aligns with the family’s religious beliefs. Homeschooling can incorporate faith-based teachings in the curriculum. Some private virtual schools include religion in their curriculum, but public online schools do not.

How Can Kids Socialize with Peers?

Children who learn at home need opportunities to interact with other kids in their age group. Families who homeschool their kids can coordinate with other families to design opportunities for students to socialize or enroll their kids in community programs. Online schools often provide structured opportunities for students to interact with others in the program and weave those opportunities into the curriculum.

How Are Students Assessed?

Some states require assessments for students who are homeschooled, but others don’t. Of the states that require students to be tested, some require minimum scores, while others do not.

Students who are enrolled in public virtual schools must take state-mandated tests. For students in private online schools, each program is free to set its own guidelines.

The pandemic that took over the globe in 2020 forced many schools in the United States and around the world to shut down and switch to online learning. While some educational institutions and private companies had been providing online education for years, in many cases, schools and universities had to make the change with little time to prepare.

While the rise in online learning has been challenging, teachers, students, and parents have come to recognize that it offers several unique benefits. If they weren’t aware of all the possibilities with online learning before - now that life is gradually returning to normal, some have said they would like to continue with online education or use a hybrid model going forward.

Benefits of Online Learning

Teachers and students generally appreciate the way that online platforms make it easy to communicate. Video conferences, chats, webinars, and document sharing can facilitate and streamline communication.

An online portal allows students to work at their own pace. A child can review a topic if necessary and move ahead once a topic is mastered. In a traditional classroom, a student who doesn’t grasp a subject may fall behind the rest of the class or have to seek extra help after school or on weekends, and a child who already understands a topic may feel bored in a class where other students haven’t yet mastered it. When kids can learn at their own pace, that helps them save time, stay engaged, and retain more information.

Online learning can give children access to instruction and subject matter experts that might not be available under ordinary circumstances. In a traditional school, staff members teach subjects they’re trained in and incorporate books and videos from other sources. With online education, students can attend lectures and discussion groups led by experts from around the globe and receive instruction that teachers at a traditional school may not be able to provide.

For the many families who already planned to homeschool or who have come to appreciate the benefits of online education and would like to continue using that approach, My Dynamic Academy provides a private, fully online school with courses taught by certified teachers.

Even though life is beginning to return to normal in many parts of the nation, COVID-19 isn’t fully behind us yet. Young children have not yet received vaccines, and some parents are also nervous or reluctant to get their kids vaccinated.

Over the past year, students across the United States have had to shift to online education. Once this happened, many parents and students found it wasn’t too hard a transition and they prefer the option to school from home better. Many have now said they will continue the practice but are looking for an educational provider that specializes in remote learning.

Benefits of Online K12 Education in 2021

Schools across the country shut down due to concerns that students and teachers could contract the coronavirus, fall ill, and spread COVID-19 to others in their households and communities. While most schools have now implemented measures to operate safely, many parents are understandably nervous about the idea of sending their kids back to school and would prefer to keep them at home. Online schooling can allow children to receive a quality education in the safety of their own homes.

Even before the pandemic, online education was becoming popular with parents and students for several reasons. Some parents were concerned that their children weren’t receiving an education that addressed their specific needs and challenges for example.

Others wanted to remove their children from schools where they were being bullied or other adverse happenings were going on, so they could focus on their education.

Some parents even wanted to be more involved in their children’s education. They wanted to know what their kids were studying and be able to answer questions and help their kids stay focused, when necessary.
